The Supply Chain Excellence Awards are hosted by Akabo Media, a newsgroup in the field of logistics, supply chain and transportation, to recognize companies, people and solutions that raise the bar in the supply chain space. With a long history of 27 prior editions, the 2024 Supply Chain Excellence Awards were celebrated in Miami, Florida, where Ocado Intelligent Automation collected the award.
Combining autonomous robots, machine learning and vision systems, the OSRS ultra-high-density cubic storage and retrieval system distinguished itself through its design and operational efficiency. It utilizes a unique grid structure to accommodate a wide range of items from different industries and maximize warehouse vertical space within different temperature zones. Powered by a sophisticated machine learning-enhanced Warehouse Execution System (WES) that orchestrates hundreds of robots, the OSRS continually refines picking and putting away to maximize order throughput, speed and accuracy.

OIA’s Robotic Pick arms on top of the grid identify, pick and pack items from storage bins without prior knowledge of what they contain. Using deep reinforcement learning, the robotic pick arm trains itself to handle new items delicately and protect them from damage.
